Kohima DTF To Enforce Ban On Single-use Plastics

DIMAPUR — A joint coordination meeting of the Kohima District Task Force and the flying squad team on the enforcement of the ban of single-use plastics (SUP) was held at the DC’s conference hall on Friday.

A DIPR report said that the meeting discussed the issue of using drinking water bottles at government offices. Following the notification by the government, the decision was made to enforce the existing ban on drinking bottles under 20 litres both in government offices within the district of Kohima and in government meetings and programmes.


The meeting decided to enforce the revised penalties of INR 5 000 for first offence, INR 10.000 for second offence and INR 200000 for third offence.

KMC also received advice to intensify checking in Kohima jurisdiction to ban the usage of SUP and encourage the paper carry bag.

Sub-divisions are also asked to set up awareness programmes to educate the public and to create action plans that discourage the use SUP. The meeting decided to intensify checks on wholesalers and printing presses that print flex banners.
