New York Increases Penalties for Unlicensed Cannabis Sales

As part of the budget for FY 2024, the New York Governor signed legislation on May 3, increasing civil and tax penalties against the illegal and unlicensed sale of cannabis. The legislation gives additional enforcement powers to the Office of Cannabis Management and Department of Taxation and Finance to take actions against non-licensed dispensaries. DTF fines and penalties can be issued for unpaid taxes. The new law also allows the OCM assess civil penalties to unlicensed marijuana businesses.
